The ITREN had a closing ceremony on Aug. 26 for the 2019 Summer Internship Program, which was designed for undergraduate students to gain hands-on experience in a research laboratory.
A total of nine students from Dankook University's department of chemistry and undergraduates from other universities participated in this year’s summer internship program, which began on July 1st and lasted for eight weeks.
In addition to the laboratory experience of material (3 weeks), cell (3 weeks), and in vivo (2 weeks), students attended lectures and discussions aimed at enhancing their understanding of tissue regenerative research, in which they could able to use their knowledge into research. Students also participated in weekly journal clubs that taught them how to read and understand research papers. Each student was required to make presentations to make connections between reading and research experience. After the completion of the summer internship curriculum, all of the participants received an official internship certificate and an ITREN souvenir.
Kim Hyun-sik, a student who participated in this year’s internship, said, "Through the ITREN internship program, I could indirectly experience how people in the different fields of science collaborate together and realized what is needed for graduate school. It gave me an opportunity to find some direction of my unclear future.”
